I have received orders from Starfleet High command. We expected to explore beyond Sector 2490, but his has changed due to the recent political turmopil in the area. Though our location has changed, our mission has not. It incorporates a number of related aspects.

• The Primary Mission, of course, is one of exploration. This area of space has been probed by Class 5 Probes but this is the first time a craft has explored. So, we have reconfigured the scanners especially for Stellar Cartography and exploring stellar and planetary phenomena.
• We may, of course, find a number of new civilisations. If this is the case we have permission to begin First Contact Procedures. To this end we have three teams of trained observers and a number of Ambassadors. We also have a number of Archaeologists in case we happen upon the remains of dead civilisations.
• To maintain contact with the Federation we have refitted the parts of the Secondary Hull into a construction facility to build and deploy an number of communication Relay Beacons. We also have personnel to place on ten Relay Stations we will be constructing and depositing at twenty light years intervals. These will also enable the Colonies we will be planting to remain in contact with the Federation and each other, since colony planting will be another aspect.
• We are to support the Stations, colonies and Terraforming Facilities that will be following us into the New Territories . This section of space is relatively quiet. It seems to be mostly small civilisations with little or no Interstellar capability. Basically we are in the dead water part of Beta Quadrant. We have a huge potential for expansion into vast unpopulated areas. We are to carefully select unpopulated destinations for colonies, and upon finding a mistake has been made we are to effect immediate withdrawal of the colonists.
• Part of our mission is to mine and collect resources from asteroids, gas clouds and any Mining colonies we plant. Deck 24 has been turned over to this purpose.
• We are to maintain a strong military presence. This space is plagued by what seems to effectively be a form of pirate race who the locals call the Kuda'ar ["Coo-Dah-Aar"]. Starfleet suggests caution in any contact with them.
• Beyond that, we expect to be turning a lot of hearsay into facts in the near future. We are one of the first missions to be assigned for regular operation further than five light years beyond DS4 , so other findings are sketchy and sometimes conflicting, so it is hard to provide accurate information.
• Finally, The continuing experimentation with Automatons on this vessel. I expect everyone to aid Starfleet in this matter by accurately reporting all performance that is abnormal for Humans, be it positive or negative. If a problem develops Lt Shale is the person to report it to. I encourage the crew to try them and forward any further suggestions or recommendations to him "
