Nanites, Engineering: Sub-microscopic Robot designed to perform Engineering functions on a minute but continuous basis. Each possesses gigabytes of information. Generally kept in a non functional state when not in use. Designed to return to dormant state (following the disastrous accident that nearly destroyed the USS Enterprise in 2366) unless a number of events occur, such as damage detected or summoned by voice. Similar to the Medical Nanites.
Nanites, Medical: Sub-microscopic Robot designed to perform Medical functions on a minute but continuous basis, such as removing clots from arteries. Each possesses gigabytes of information. Generally kept in a non functional state when not in use. Designed to return to dormant state unless a number of events occur. Similar to the Engineering Nanites. In 2366 a group of self replicating Nanites achieved sentience and have since spread to a large number of other fields of operations. They have been given a planet all to themselves, and an offer of Federation membership.

New Territories: A section of space in the Alpha Quadrant stretching between the Federation and the outer edge of the galaxy, opposite Ferengi space. It lies between Trill and the Tholian embassy.
