PADD

Personal Access Data Device. About the size of a pocket calculator. It can access and display any of the information stored in the ships libraries. Furthermore it can remotely be used to access control panels around a Starship, even to the extent of controlling the Helm.

Pattern Buffer

Device used by Trasporters to store information on the subatomic make up of the object being received or transmitted.

Personal Force Field Generators

Devices designed to protect individuals from attack. Their power cells tend only to last a few minutes, and their use is rare. Starfleet special forces do employ them and most officers can jurry-rig them out of the components in their Com pin.

Personal Holosuites

Like a Holodeck, but much smaller and tends to be used for ethically questionable purposes.

Personnel 6-Man Trasporters

Standard devices that we see almost every episode in Star Trek. Designed to transport live individuals, may be adjusted to transport a large quantity of non-living Material. The USS Sutherland has 6 of theses devices. The USS EXplorer has 1 of theses devices, as well as an emergency 1-person Beam-Out-Only Transporter at the rear of the Bridge.

Phaser Arrays

Coordinated Ships defences incorporating linked and redundant emitters. The USS Explorer does not have an array, focusing all it power into two turreted Pulse Phaser cannons.

High yield anti-vehicular weaponry.

Plasma Power distribution (Electro-Plasma System)

The EPS is the power distribution system on all Federation Ships, and Starbase facilities. It is also used by other species such as the Cardasians and Klingons. It relies on the distribution of high energy plasma through a series of conduits. While it is extremely efficient, it can have explosive results if for some reason the conduits become blocked or fracture. A small plasma fire can fill a room the size of a Shuttle Bay with a deadly dose of radiation in under an hour.

This is a Vulcan condition which is not discussed and remains strictly an eye’s only listing for Chief Medical Officers. It is deemed extremely offensive to mention or allude to.

The Position or job given to an individual while serving on a ship or station. These include;

Prime Directive

Members of the United Federation of Planet's body Starfleet shall not interfere with the natural running and development of any society, under any circumstances, even at the cost of lives. This may be overridden by a joint board meeting of Starfleet's Heads of Staff who decide to initiate First Contact Procedures with a Species. Despite the fact that this is the Prime Directive, it is disobeyed regularly. The Primary Purpose of Starfleet is "To boldly go..." These sometimes conflict.

Probes

Automated devices for taking remote sensor readings at a distance or in a situation you would not want to send a Starship.

Provisional New Species Membership Act

This allows a speedy entry into Federation, and subsequently Starfleet, for races which appeal for membership of the Federation under extreme circumstances. The Swanitee were accepted on the grounds that their planet does not even belong in our universe so they have no other means of support.

Psi 2000 Nebular

The remains of a planet in the Psi 2000 system that disintegrated in 2266. It was also the location first recorded occurrence of the Psi 2000 virus.

Psi 2000 virus

A virulent microvirus transmitted by touch , or through the air. It affects the victims mind, effectively removing all inhibitions, and causing them to act in dangerous and anti-social ways. It is believed to be caused by the effect of gravionometric distortions on a party of Humans who remain in the vicinity of a collapsing stellar body for a long period of time. The observation crew on Psi 2000 (2266), and the crew of the USS Tsiolokovsky (2364), were both involved in long term observations of this phenomena when they were infected and died. In both cases the USS Enterprise medical crew were able to ascertain the condition and develop an appropriate cure.
