- Ship’s Counsellor
- Member of the Medical team, usually trained in Psychology. Stops crew from loosing it in high stress situations. Lt. Commander Hobson once commented to Acting Captain Data that no one would ever appoint a Klingons as Ship’s Counsellor. Much to his annoyance the USS Sutherland took on a Klingons Female for that position. She has since been replaced by a Trill, far more suited to the occasion. The Klingons is still used in emergency counselling, usually along the terms of, "He’s dead, get over it".
- Shuttle Bay
- The USS Explorer has one shuttle bay, that can hold two small shuttles at most. It is located on the top deck in front of the Bridge.

- Skin Sensors
- Throughout the vessels hull a number of micro sensors are used to give a much more accurate idea of the ships status and proximity. By using these a ship can detect when it even brushes against something.
- Smoko bay
- Spacedock
- Orbital Federation repair and refit facility large enough to house one or more entire Starships. Initially Starfleet only allowed RCS thrusters to be used inside, however by The Next Generation ships were allowed to use Impulse power.
- Starbase
- These large orbital facilities are designed for major long term habitation. Their purpose ranges from recreation, refit, long term scientific study, and even on rare occasions colonisation. They are often large enough to comfortably house a number of vessels inside them for the purposes of repair and refit. Each race has it’s own distinct design.
- Stardate
- A time sequence that takes into account the vast difference travelling at faster than light can produce. Logs are given on Stardates which then can be cross checked and referenced to give an exact time. For game purposes a Stardate works like this.

- Starfleet
- The military arm of the Federation, although they claim their purpose is primarily one of exploration. Although they are commonly thought to be one and the same, the Federation does in fact have a far wider purview. A being or ship can belong to the Federation, without being part of Starfleet.
- Starfleet High Command
- Makes all the decisions for the Starfleet. Often a Captain will need to check permission with High Command, although they tend to be given a fair amount of autonomy.
- Starships
- Any interstellar capable vessel, regardless of race or how long an interstellar journey may take.
- Star systems
- Every sun has the potential to have planets around it. A sun and it’s planets are referred to as a system. They are often given the name of the star. The Human sun is named Sol, and so it and it’s planets are referred to as the Sol System, or Solar system.
- Structural Integrity Field (SIF) generators
- Force field emitters that maintain the atmosphere and structural strength when the hull is stressed or ruptured.
- Subspace
- Literally meaning "below (Sub) space". It is a region where normal space-time is distorted. It is closely linked to faster than light travel and communication. Very similar in concept to the ancient concept of the Ether.

- Synthahol
- A failed attempt to reproduce alcoholic beverages through the Replicator. Synthahol has none of the effects of alcohol, but doesn’t really have any of the taste either. It is possible to produce alcohol, but you need a good security clearance.
